While the ongoing debate often centers around Michael Jordan versus LeBron James, it’s essential not to overlook the significance of Kevin Durant.

Widely recognized as a future Hall of Famer and considered an all-time great by many, Durant, according to former NBA guard Rashad McCants, has the potential to surpass LeBron James in overall basketball greatness.

In a recent episode of Gilbert Arenas’ “Gil’s Arena” podcast, McCants argued that Durant will eventually be regarded as the superior player, emphasizing that this perspective might not be as widely promoted as LeBron James and Steph Curry’s, potentially influencing public perception of Durant’s historical standing.

“I think the real hoopers know that Kevin Durant is gonna go down as, I think, a better basketball player than LeBron at the end of the road, not right now,” McCants said. 

 

While McCants is entitled to his opinion, having competed against both Durant and James, it’s reasonable to differ on this matter. While Durant is likely to be recognized as a top-15 or possibly top-10 player in NBA history, LeBron James is expected to consistently rank above him in all-time assessments, given his enduring impact on the game.

Kevin Durant undoubtedly stands among the best of his generation, but despite his remarkable skills, the enduring durability of LeBron James remains a factor that distinguishes their respective places in basketball history.
